Being graduated in sport sciences and having obtained her PhD at the UCLouvain in Belgium, Louise Deldicque did her post-doc at the University of Dundee in Scotland and at UC Davis in California under the supervision of Keith Baar. Louise Deldicque started her career at the KU Leuven in Belgium where she got a tenure-track position. She is now full professor at the UCLouvain. She has developed expertise in exercise physiology and more particularly in the molecular regulation of muscle mass. Several stimuli such as contractile activity and nutrition are known to regulate the development of muscle mass. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully elucidated. Moreover, pathological and environmental conditions may interfere with the effect of exercise and nutrition on muscle adaptation. Having worked for a few years on the adaptation of muscle mass during conditions of diabetes and obesity, she now focuses on the regulation of protein synthesis and protein degradation after exposure to hypoxia.
